Marvel The Avengers – Battle For Earth #CleverAvengers #Spon

December 8, 2012 By Double Duty Mommy 19 Comments

Thank you to Ubisoft for sponsoring this post. Please click here to learn more about Ubisoft. I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective. #UbiChamps

The Avengers are back – and in a big way! This time they have taken over the Kinect for XBox 360 and they are going to take back what’s theres!

The Skrull Empire has taken over the earth and is trying to enslave mankind by impersonating the world’s greatest super heroes. Now it’s time for you to embody your favorite super hero and save the planet. Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth features 20 different characters, including Avengers such as Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and Thor, as well as other fan-favorite Super Heroes and Super Villains from the Marvel Universe.

This adrenaline-pumping motion control game play and features interactive environments inspired by iconic Marvel comic artwork and the Secret Invasion story-line. The basic premise of Secret Invasion was that the shape-shifting Skrulls had found a way to transform themselves to resemble many of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes without being detected and then inserting themselves as sleeper agents amongst the super hero population. Once it was revealed with Skrull-Electra’s death, the event had everyone guessing as to whom they could trust and just where all the original heroes had gone.

The controls are simple – you are the controller while playing via the Kinect from XBox 360. Each round of fighting features a pair of heroes or villains on each side, but should one character’s lifebar be depleted, the match is over. You must physically kick, punch, swing your arms around, and dodge to mimic moves that the actual Marvel characters might do. From opening your arms to the side for an Iron Man Repulsor Beam, to clasping your fists together and swinging upward for a massive Hulk uppercut the game does a great job at recognizing your movements. There’s even a little “cheat sheet” in the bottom right corner that guides you through which movements you should perform next. To immerse you in the experience even more, there are even voice commands where if you scream certain phrases during Ultra Attacks, like ‘Shield Of Justice (For Captain America), or ‘HULK SMASH” (for the Incredible Hulk, of course), your punches become even more powerful and as cheesy as you may sound, the gimmick is surprisingly fun.

The campaign version is surprisingly long which my husband said is okay with him because he actually can get a good cardio work out from playing the game. There are 5 levels to the campaign and 8 levels within those levels. Beating a level unlocks new characters and character skins as well so there is a push to the game because everyone wants to play as their favorite character but unless you unlock them you have to wait. You can also unlock special content and rise to the top of the online leaderboards by playing other modes of the game. You can play with friends or against someone in a different state or country in a wide variety of game modes including arcade, campaign and coop and VS either offline or online.

All in all my husband and his friends have loved playing Marvel The Avengers Battle For Earth. As I said, they find it to be a great workout even though the moves can become a little repetitive after a while they still stick through it to see what is next.

You can purchase Marvel The Avengers: Battle For Earth on sale for just $45.09 from Amazon!

I love how much it keeps the guys moving as they play instead of sitting around like lumps, the way traditional video games are.

Exactly! They both had to stop after a while because hubby’s friend said he might have a heart attack, lol. Not sure if that’s his lack of cardio or the game just kicks your butt that much.
