Disclosure: I am partnering with TheMotherhood as they launch their “12 Days of Giving” leading up to Giving Tuesday. Visit their site to follow along with their efforts and find more information on Giving Tuesday. All opinions stated below are mine unless noted otherwise. I received compensation to talk about this subject but that did not influence my post.
As a parent, I wear many hats. One of those hats is a teacher. I have to help teach my kids so many different lessons on a daily basis from school work, right and wrong, and the importance of giving back to and helping the community. During the holiday season I feel like I talk about it daily because there is so much, “I want that from Santa!” going on. That’s why I’m so excited to partner with TheMotherhood and Giving Tuesday.
What is #GivingTuesday?
#GivingTuesday™ inspires personal philanthropy and encourages bigger, better and smarter charitable giving during the holiday season, showing that the world truly gives as good as it gets.
Where did the idea come from? The retail industry has long benefited from seasonal shopping that symbolically kicks off with “Black Friday” – a day that has since inspired “Small Business Saturday” and “Cyber Monday.” #GivingTuesday™, then, serves as a celebratory, fully connected day to kick off the giving season, when many make their holiday and end-of-year charitable gifts.
Two years ago I did a campaign for a brand and ever since then the tradition has stuck with my family. We donate Christmas Stockings that have been stuffed to the max with gifts for kids!
We get at least 10 stockings each year (5 boys and 5 girls) and donate them to a local drop-off area. I know it’s not much and I wish I could donate a lot more but I know I don’t have to be a billionaire to do my part. My girls love picking out things they think the boys and girls will love to see on Christmas morning. Makenna especially loves what we do because she understands more but Kendall is quickly catching on since this is will be our 3rd year buying stockings.
#GivingTuesday proves that the holidays can be about both giving and giving back. It celebrates how Americans can do more with their wallets than just show – and that we Americans can give as good as we get.
Giving Tuesday is on December 3rd this year. You can learn more by visiting the #GivingTuesday site and following #GivingTuesday on social media. Also, be sure to visit TheMotherhood’s Blog to check out their 12 Days Of Giving in honor of Giving Tuesday.
