The first poster of Angelina Jolie portraying the evil Maleficent, who puts a curse on Princess Aurora/Sleeping Beauty/Briar Rose was a fantastic teaser, but now, we finally get a live peek via a trailer of the Disney fairytale, which made its highly anticipated debut on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
From Disney comes “Maleficent”—the untold story of Disney’s most iconicvillain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.
In the trailer we see the blonde and beautiful Aurora, portrayed by Elle Fanning, asking Maleficent to come out and reveal herself. We finally hear Jolie’s voice when she emerges from the shadows in her scary glory. She definitely has the role down with her telltale horns, stunning blood-red lips, pale white complexion and glowing green and yellow eyes.
Watch for about 20 seconds into the trailer and you’ll spot Angie’s daughter – Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, the now 5-year-old daughter of Jolie and partner Brad Pitt (and twin to brother Knox). Vivienne was cast as a young Aurora because she was the only 4-year-old who wouldn’t scream at the sight of Angelina when she was in full make-up. Also making small appearances in the film are two of Angelina’s other children, Pax and Zahara.
