When my husband started reading The Hunger Games book series I thought he was so silly. I didn’t understand what the big buzz was about. Now years later, I am preparing for the movie release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. I actually saw Hunger Games in 2012 before even picking up the book. After the movie I raided my husband’s book shelf and stole all of The Hunger Games books so I could dive in before the next movie game out.
After reading the book and seeing Hunger Games again, I couldn’t believe how true to the book they made the movie. They left a lot out but books do go into so much more detail so that is to be expected. If you’ve seen other books-turned-into-movies movies then you know how a lot of the time a movie does not end up being even close to what you, the reader, imagines. Every movie since 2012, has brought the Suzanne Collins books to life perfectly so I have no doubt how perfect The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 will be!
I know a lot of people think The Hunger Games is aimed towards teens, and it is, but I can speak for myself when I say that I enjoy the books because there is just something about a strong female character in a good book that gets me. I’m not really an avid reader and I will tell you that all day but when I can get into a book it’s because I feel connected with a character, usually a female, that is strong like I hope to be.
When my daughter reads the books I hope she can look up to Katniss and have the power to stand up for things she believes in while also having a strong, confident personality. She is extremely quiet most of the time (which can be a good thing, lol) but when she should speak up, she doesn’t. We’re working on it though and I can only hope that she can connect with Katniss and take some bits from her personality. Knowing she can be confident, strong, outgoing, but also stay her sweet innocent self.
To see The Hunger Games: Catching Fire I went alone (yes, I was THAT person, lol) but this year I’ll be bringing Makenna to see the third film! now all caught up on the first two movies! I can’t wait for our Mommy/Daughter Date!
How am I preparing for the next movie release this Friday, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1? I just re-watched Hunger Games and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and reread all of the books. Makenna is now old enough and she actually asked to read the books too. Last month she started on them and is now in the middle of Mockingjay. To see The Hunger Games: Catching Fire I went alone (yes, I was THAT person, lol) but this year I’ll be bringing Makenna to see the third film! I made her read the books first and then I let her watch the movies. Now she’s all caught up and ready for Friday! I can’t wait for our Mommy/Daughter Date!
Let me catch you up – The Hunger Game series takes place in the ruins of what was once the great country of America. In the dystopia of Panem, a wealthy Capitol is ringed by poor, sickly districts full of hungry and disgruntled citizens. Each year, to be sure that the districts know their place, each district is required to send one boy and one girl under the ages of 18 into “The Hunger Games” where they fight to the death until just one child is left standing. Even more gruesome is that the entire event is celebrated in the Capitol as a sporting event, and broadcast on live TV for the entire nation to watch. All this changes however, the year that Katniss Everdeen becomes the chosen girl for her District.
SPOILERS BELOW! SCROLL DOWN!!!!!
The third book in the series, Mockingjay, has so much content that the story will be portrayed in two movies. Part 1 in the book is subtitled, “The Ashes” and picks up after Katniss is rescued from the arena and taken to District 13.
A revolution is unfolding and Katniss is the centerpiece and symbol of the rebellion. You follow her on the quest to save her friends and salvage what’s left of the other districts and citizens of Panem. Under the leadership of President Coin (Julianne Moore) and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta, wherever he may be. It is definitely ACTION PACKED!
The Hunger Games stars Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mallerk
Liam Hemswort as Gale Hawthorne. Just watching the trailer gives me chills!!
