The first trailer for Doctor Strange premiered Tuesday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live and admittedly I was like “Who?” So I had to get some education behind this man. For that, I went to my husband. Knowing of all things Marvel he clued me in and although it’s a bit weird, I’m so excited for the next installment into the amazing Marvel world.
The movie follows Stephen Strange, aka Doctor Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch. I’ll admit that once you watch the trailer you might be a bit thrown off. How does this 1960s psychedelic, Inception type film fit into the world of Marvel as we know it today? Well, it does and in the comics, the Strange regularly interacts with Captain America and friends so who knows where we might see him pop up in the coming years.
Doctor Strange’s backstory is like long and it’s going to take its time introducing you to the character because it is, in fact, an origin story. Stephen Strange starts out as a surgeon, who, after a very bad car accident that we see in the opening of the trailer, has nerve damage in his hands and thus loses his whole life. He heads for some soul searching in the Himalayas where he meets a mystical figure called The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton). And from there… things get weird… quickly.
You’ll notice there’s no special serum or gamma radiation or billions of dollars to make techy stuff… there’s just magic!
Watch the trailer and get sucked into the amazing world of Doctor Strange with me this fall when Doctor Strange hits theaters NOVEMBER 4th!
