I’ve always struggled with makeup all my life, even though I love it. As much as I’ve tried I’m more like a toddler wielding a Sigma brush as if the name brand will help in some way. One part of my makeup I’ve always wanted to perfect are my brows. Brows are everything to your face but I’ve never been able to create the look I see everyone else creating so I’m left disappointed. I knew microblading was something I wanted to get done and after years of research I finally took the leap. I’m here to share my experience and give you a little microblading 101 insight.

So let’s dive into the many questions you may have about microblading and my personal experience.
First off, do your own research! This is your face we’re talking about. After 2-3 years of doing my own research, following many places on social media, and asking friends, I knew Oh La La Brow Bar was for me. Besides doing incredible work, this brow bar is owned by a strong Latina entrepreneur, Natasha Martínez. As a single mother, Natasha had a dream of owning her own brow bar and waxing studio to help women feel more confident, beautiful and radiant. She’s definitely achieved that and more in less than 10 years since opening Oh La La.
My Microblading Experience
HOW MUCH DOES MICROBLADING COST?
This is an investment that you should be prepared to take on. No matter what type of microblading you get there will be yearly touch-ups to maintain the brows. You can expect a cost between $500-$800 at your initial visit. At Oh La La Brow Bar they offer many different types of semi-permanent brow services so the prices will range depending on that. I talk more about that below.
ARE THERE DIFFERENT TYPES OF MICROBLADING?
Yes, there definitely are different types of “microblading” you can get. Regular microblading, nanoblading, hybrid, micropigmentation, ombre, and the list goes on. I received hybrid nano-microblading. We combined three types of services to give me the best outcome and for my brows to last longer.
I will also say, if the place you visit isn’t constantly learning and changing up how they microblade, I would advise you to turn around and leave.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE?
My appointment took about 3 1/2 hours. This includes drawing, measuring, numbing your brows, lying on the table for the process, measuring again, and so forth. While getting my brows perfected, Natasha stopped multiple times to give both of us a break and to re-numb me if I needed it.
DOES IT HURT?
It feels like you’re getting little scratches over and over. It is “painful”? No. Is it annoying? Yes. Since I was numbed up and have a high pain tolerance, I didn’t feel a thing. When the numbing cream wore off a bit, that’s when I starting to feel the scratching. Again, not necessarily painful but more annoying than anything else. Granted, I’ve had three natural child births, multiple piercings, and a lot of tattoos over the years.
WHAT IS THE HEALING PROCESS LIKE FOR MICROBLADING?
My instructions were to “dry heal”. This is exactly what it sounds like and it’s hard! You cannot get your brows wet at all while you’re healing (7-10 days). I barely wear makeup so this wasn’t really a problem for me per se. If I began to sweat (hello May/June in Florida with 105℉), I could simply wipe my head before it got to my brows. Showers were a bit more difficult as I would have to awkwardly attempt to wash my hair. I also kept a towel close by so if I felt any water run down my forehead I could quickly pat it dry.
During this time your brows will crack and scab over. It’s extremely important that you do not rip the scabs off. The scabs hold the pigment and if you rip them off before they’re ready, you’ll be taking all the pigment you want in your brows away with it. At this time your brows will feel itchy too. If you’ve gotten a tattoo then you know what I mean. Don’t scratch at your brows! Once your scabs start to fall off you will more than likely not see any color left. Oxidation needs to happen so in about a week, your gorgeous brows will be back in full force! Let the process happen and you’ll be extremely happy with the end result. It’s all worth it, I promise.
WHAT HAPPENS AT THE MICROBLADING TOUCH-UP APPOINTMENT?
No matter where you go, they should give you one touch up appointment that is included in the initial cost. This appointment happens 4-6 weeks after your initial visit because everyone heals differently. Certain areas in the brow may not pick up the pigment during first session and will need to be refilled. Pigment color may also need to be adjusted, brow thickness changed, and/or more hair-like strokes can be added at this time. If you have oily skin this often requires a darker shade to be added in during the touch up session as oils tend to lighten the pigment.
WOULD I DO IT AGAIN?
100%, yes. Without question I would go through the entire process again. I’m so happy I found a brow bar that I fully trust. Natasha and her staff were extremely professional and welcoming. My results were exactly what I was wanted and when I was freaking out over the healing process, Natasha was always available when I slid into her DMs like I was Joe Goldburg from YOU. I’ll definitely be going to my yearly touch-up appointment religiously to keep these brows for as long as possible.
