Everyone wants their neighborhood to be a safe and thriving space to live and raise a family. However, crime can prevent your community from being as safe as you’d like it to be. We can work toward a safer community and consider getting more involved in crime prevention to help keep it safe. I have three simple tips to help make and keep your community safer. Hint: It starts with you! I’ve partnered with Flock Safety for this post. All opinions stated are my own unless noted.

Tips To Make Your Neighborhood Safer
Can we really help make our neighborhood safer? These tips can help!
Know Your Neighbors
It goes without saying but knowing the fellow people you live next to and around is a must. If you’re at work or out of town, you will have peace of mind knowing that you have people looking out for your home while you’re away. Since I’m home for the majority of the day, I am constantly on the lookout for strange vehicles or suspicious people wandering around.
Know Your Local Police Department
No question about it, you should know where your local police station is and know the non-emergency phone number. You can also work with them on specific issues. For example, if cars are constantly speeding, ask them to patrol the streets. Doing a randomized drive-through can help cut down on speeding or other issues plus, it can help detour criminals who will see an officer driving by.
Install A Security Camera

The best way to improve safety in your neighborhood is to get a security system. You may have a home security system, but did you know that they rarely help catch a criminal? 87% of non-violent crimes go unsolved because of a lack of evidence. What you need is real evidence that you can provide with law enforcement. Flock Safety is the solution for safer communities. When installed at the entrance of your community, Flock Safety monitors the vehicles coming in and out 24/7 with their License Plate Recognition software. Recording license plates from cars going up to 55pmh and up to 75ft away! No car can avoid your Flock Safety camera. It also learns the vehicles that belong to residents and those that don’t.

One of the best parts is that all footage is stored in a secured & encrypted cloud. And don’t worry about combing through hours upon hours of video footage, Flock Safety captures still images. Using advanced technology, Flock Safety turns video footage into high-quality photos so you can provide the police with real evidence when criminal activity occurs. They also use Vehicle Fingerprint™ software technology to identify vehicles by their unique make, model, color, marks, license plate, and other information.

The Flock Safety team is quick, experienced, and best of all – you don’t even have to be present for installation! I hung around for our installation and in a matter of 20 minutes, the tech had everything installed and up & running.

The camera is focused down toward the ground so you and your neighbors can feel safe knowing you’re not constantly on camera. There is also no audio sound unlike other security cameras you or your neighbors may have (did you know that they record 24/7 – audio and video?!). Flock Safety captures still images of each and every vehicle, then uploads them to the cloud service and that’s it.
Community members can also request to be on the “Safe List” so their vehicles are marked as “Resident” or completely opt out so their vehicles won’t be recorded. This reduces the concern of neighbors feeling watched. Your neighborhood becomes not only a safer place to be but a more enjoyable one.
