Did you know that there is something more painful than giving birth? Well, there is. Mattress shopping. Yep, I said it. Shopping for a new mattress is the bane of my existence but we finally hit the bullet, and now we have a new mattress set! So how did I get from hating the thought of a new mattress to having a new one in my home and giving you a Leesa mattress review? Let’s backtrack for a moment. Since we’re redoing every room in the house and adding details like this easy DIY window trim it was time for the master bedroom to get a facelift too.
Disclosure: This post is sponsored by BabbleBoxx.com on behalf of Leesa but our experience is real life ’cause that’s what I share here, friends!
We were last; the kids always come first, so we never worried about what our room looked like, what our mattress felt like, that the walls were bare, or that the bedroom echoed. It’s true, hence our ancient, 25-year-old hand-me-down mattress. We tried to make her comfy by adding multiple layers of pillow top mattresses, but of course, that softness was temporary.
Our previous home(s) each had a small master bedroom so what furniture we had fit perfectly, in our new build home, it’s the opposite so as you can imagine we didn’t have the furniture to fill it correctly. But alas, a master bedroom redo also meant we should even get a new mattress. So in other words, it was time. I had put it off long enough, but I was finally ready to go shopping.

Here’s the before mess well-loved space. Like I said before, it was just mismatched pieces and no style at all. It needed a complete overhaul, so that’s what we set out to do. The bed frame was less than 2-years-old, and the comforter set was only a month old, so those would stay, but everything else had to go.

I shopped at places like HomeGoods, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Kirkland’s and IKEA; and I always made sure I have a coupon or items are on sale. Another great place to shop from is Etsy. You can find some great deals on handmade decor while supporting small shops. The huge 4ft by 2ft sign above the bed – I made that with what we had hanging around the garage so woohoo completely free project.

My husband lets me pretty much have free reign over the home decor, and I live for that, people. So the walls were painted and decorated, we had practically new everything in the room except you guessed it, the mattress. One thing Charles has to have is a comfy, soft mattress and that was his only request. I went hunting even though I was dreading it.
Why do I feel like in-store mattress shopping is so painful?
1. Too many options! – Ultra premium this and that, super coil density here, and pillow tops made from angel feathers with added unicorn tears there. NO! Just keep it straight and simple, mattress people! And news flash, different companies call the same mattress different things. So you may have hated Brand A’s Super Deluxe Ultra Mattress at $1500 but love Brand B’s Deluxe Ultra Mattress at $2000. It’s more money, but you love the feel of it, right? Wrong! It was the same mattress. They took out “super” but added $500! Don’t fall for these tricks.
2. Lying where other people lied! – I’m sorry but gross! That’s it. That’s all I have to say about that.
3. They all feel the same! – Going from mattress to mattress in a store just doesn’t do it for me. Every one of them feels the same to me at the time. Did you know you’re supposed to lie on each mattress at least 15 minutes? But even then, that won’t guarantee that it will be comfortable for a full night’s sleep.
4. Shady return policies! – Some (not all) mattress companies tell you that you can return the mattress in “X amount of days” but what they don’t tell you about are the fees associated with it. It’s that small print that you don’t read over, but yet you sign off on it.
Instead, I went the online route. You shouldn’t have to ask why. My reasons above are enough. I just didn’t have the strength or enough Lysol to handle shopping in a store. Thankfully, my journey didn’t take very long before I came upon Leesa Sleep.

The Leesa website is incredibly easy to navigate. They’ve kept things simple – just like their mattresses. There are two choices from Leesa: Leesa Mattress or Sapria.
Two easy to choose from choices:
1) Leesa Mattress – three foam layers
2) Sapria Mattress – Hybrid! Two layers of foam combined with advanced pocket spring coils.

I received the Leesa Mattress (by the way, they plant a tree with every mattress order). It’s the heart of Leesa and what started the company. Leesa’s unique combination of three premium performance foams provides cooling bounce, contouring pressure relief and core support for fantastic sleep. We were especially intrigued by their Universal Adaptive Feel™ that adapts to all body shapes and sizes and all sleeping styles. They’re driven by the mission to provide “A Better Place To Sleep for Everybody.” Leesa donates one mattress to a shelter for every ten they sell through their One-ten program! How incredible is that?
Leesa Mattress Review
Now I’m not even going to sit back and act like I know what most of these technical terms mean but let me tell you something about this mattress that you need to hear. The Cooling Avena® Foam seriously works. Florida gets hot. Like Death Valley hot. It’s not uncommon that I wake up in the middle of the night in a sweat, kicking off all the blankets and throwing my hair in a quick bun. Well, I’m happy to tell you that not once has that happened since sleeping on the Leesa. Whatever they did with their Cooling Avena® Foam is magic. Pure sorcery if you ask me.

Next layer is the 2″ memory foam layer which delivers the body contouring and pressure relief you’ve come to expect from memory foam. Now real talk, we’re getting old people. It’s happening faster than I ever thought possible. The pressure relief has been heaven on my back! The bed is firm but also like sleeping on a fluffy cloud if that’s possible. On the bottom is 6″ base foam layer that adds strength, durability, and structure to support sleepers of all sizes, without feeling too firm. As I mentioned, Charles asked for a comfy, soft bed and he thinks Leesa delivered on that. I describe the bed as medium-firm, but that’s not officially what Leesa says so don’t yell at them if you don’t agree.

Let’s talk about the gorgeous pillows. Years ago, 11 years ago to be exact, I was in a horrible rollover car accident. I almost died that night. My neck had been fractured in multiple places and only a MM away from my C3. Ever since then I live with daily migraines. These migraines can worsen depending on how I sleep the night before. Has this pillow magically cured my migraines? Of course not, but it has decreased the intensity! Some days I have woken up and not dealt with pain whatsoever. The last time I felt relief and a pain-free day was before the accident.

It’s incredible what a good nights sleep does to your mood. I am a better mom and wife those days, I must say. The Leesa Luxe Pillow is an adjustable and reversible hybrid pillow featuring a down-like quilted pocket side and a cooling side for a restorative sleep experience. No joke, this pillow has four ways to tailor to you and your personalized comfort that fits how you sleep.
One way to customize your sleep is the pillow insert that sits between the quilted pocket and cool layers that can be removed with a simple zip to change your support level. My husband took out the insert for a fluffier, more “down” feel but for my neck support needs, I leave the insert in. Want a simply cooler pillow? You got it. The Leesa Luxe Pillow has cool-to-the-touch fabric that chills five times faster than a traditional fill pillow, or, flip to the reversible cool side for a calming experience as you drift to sleep. Oh and P.S.: No fluffing necessary! Down-like quilted pockets maintain their fluffy shape and support where other down pillows will clump with use. The durable, cooling fabric is also machine washable (on gentle), so even your worst drool is washed away.

While you do not need a Leesa Foundation (you DO need a proper foundation under the mattress) I felt like it completed the package. I love how streamlined my mattress, foundation, and pillows look together. The foundation comes in a box as well but in a couple of easy to follow steps we had it put together! You slide each of the corners together with a rod, slide in the center supports, then spread the top slates over the top. I’d say in no more than 10 minutes it was ready for the mattress.

I love coming into our bedroom now that the makeover is complete, but I especially love going to bed. Leesa has given us the power of sleep again. We sleep better and longer than we ever have. More importantly, it’s quality sleep! Next up, I need to shop for Leesa sheets and blanket!
Stop shopping in mattress stores and try a Leesa mattress! You can thank me later.
