Britax is a brand that has been a leader in mobile safety for over 70 years, they are one of the most trusted brands by parents and caregiveres around the world and their products undergo some of the most rigorous testing in the industry. We’ve been huge fans of Britax from car seats to their strollers so when they asked me to review their brand new Babies “R” Us BRITAX ADVOCATE ULTIMATE COMFORT SERIES convertible car seat.
The Britax Advocate is a Convertible Car Seat that accommodates children rear facing 5 to 40 pounds and forward facing from 1 year AND 20 to 65 pounds. This car seat features HUGS Chest Pads with SafeCell Technology, EZ-Buckle system, and Click & Safe indicator just to name a FEW great features.
One thing you may notice is that I didn’t say this is an Advocate 70 G3 or CS. New for 2014 Britax has dropped the numbers from the names of their convertibles. You will still find older seats with the numbers on them though.
With the ADVOCATE ULTIMATE COMFORT SERIES you get exclusive the “Manhattan” print (black quilt and gray checkers), dishwasher safe cup holder and memory foam for ultimate comfort. You can really feel the difference with the memory foam added compared to our other Britax convertible seat. Kendall seems more comfortable and hasn’t complained when we are our running errands or on a long car ride.
The ADVOCATE ULTIMATE COMFORT SERIES achieves revolutionary head safety through the use of BRITAX SafeCell Technology® in the base, integrated steel bars, and energy absorbing Versa-Tether® that work together to minimize head excursion and reduce the risk of head injury during a frontal impact.
Side Impact Cushion Technology™ features energy-absorbing cushions on the exterior of the child seat to reduce side impact crash energy by 45% by diverting crash forces away from your child and providing extra protection for the adjacent passenger.
A new infant insert that’s required for infants up to 22 lbs. After the child reaches 22 lbs., the insert must be removed. It’s used for proper positioning for harness height and extra comfort.
The Click & Safe® Snug Harness Indicator is an audible aid that provides extra assurance when the harness is within range of appropriate snugness. Also, the new HUGS with SafeCell Technology manages crash energy and forward head movement while keeping the chest clip properly positioned. HUGS came out on 2013 model of seats but the 2014 HUGS version (found on Blvd, Pavilion & Advocate models. Marathon will have “old” version, and Roundabout doesn’t have HUGS at all) has a wavy design on the front that the chest clip “locks” into when the harness is properly tightened. This should makes it difficult for children to push the chest clip down. Britax does note that HUGS is still optional for rear-facing children, although they do recommend that they are left on all the time so parents don’t accidentally lose them.
