Summertime for us equal countless hours outside playing with just as many days at the pool, and too many BBQ nights to count. Of course, it’s Florida though so some days are spent inside hoping the rain will stop. On those days, when my kids still want a little taste of summer, we love to make a summer classic but indoor style. I take the classic S’mores treat that everyone loves but take out the mess (most of it at least) and fire smell. Making a batch of S’mores Muddy Buddies snack mix is super easy and the kids love helping. It’s super fun to create new muddy buddy mixes with some classic recipes like S’mores.

Different Types of Puppy Chow

For me, nothing can beat chocolate and peanut butter combining. I love it. No surprise that Muddy Buddies or “Puppy Chow” is one of my favorite things to throw together because it’s so quick and easy to make.
S’Mores Muddy Buddies mix is made up of just 4 ingredients. All you need is 2 different types of breakfast cereal, mini marshmallows, and yummy chocolate. I use HERSHEY’S chocolate because it melts beautifully and HERSHEY’S always reminds me of my childhood.

Ingredients For Muddy Buddies
- 5 Cups honey graham cereal
- 3 Cups toasted rice cereal
- 1 Cup powdered sugar
- ½ Cup creamy peanut butter
- 1½ Cup HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate Chips
- 2 HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate Bars, broken
- 1¾ cup mini marshmallows
How To Make S’mores Muddy Buddies
In a large bowl, combine honey graham cereal and 3 cups toasted rice cereal. Set aside for later. You’ll also need to add 1 cup of powdered sugar in a large gallon ziplock bag. Also, set aside for later.
In a large microwave safe bowl, combine creamy peanut butter and 1 cup of the HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate Chips. Microwave the peanut butter and chocolate chips 30-seconds at a time, stirring in between. Continue to melt in microwave until mix is melted and creamy. Add 1 cup mini marshmallows to the chocolate/peanut butter mixture and stir to coat.
Working quickly but carefully, pour chocolate mixture over the two cereals and stir together until cereal is fully coated. Scoop the chocolate coated cereal into the ziplock with powdered sugar, close, and shake. Cereal should be completely covered in powdered sugar.
Add the remaining 3/4 cup mini marshmallows, 1/2 cup chocolate chips to mix, and broken up chocolate bar pieces. Stir to combine. Spread cereal mix on a baking sheet to “dry”. Serve when ready.

Yep, it really is that easy. Melting HERSHEY’S chocolate is always a good thing because that means there’s always a spoon that will need licking!
