I waited a few weeks but I finally went to Disney

I waited a few weeks but I finally went to Disney World and I must say, I was only slightly impressed. As impressed as you can be with a non-essential theme park being open during a global pandemic. I had reservations for Magic Kingdom the day before HS and Epcot the following day but I cancelled both MK AND Epcot. Why? I was questioning my choices about going to MK so I decided it be best to stay home. After visiting HS I decided it wasn’t worth heading to Epcot. The good and bad about Disney?

✔️ Everyone in masks with 90% being worn correctly.
✔️ Hand sanitizer and mobile hand washing stations everywhere.
✔️ Increased cleaning.

❌ Not everyone follows the rules. Plain and simple. You can ONLY eat and drink while stationary but I saw people drinking and eating while walking to avoid wearing a mask. CMs didn’t say anything to them. Why?! If it’s a rule they should speak up.
❌ While being stuck in the rain I was under an awning for protection and hoards of people tried to join me. I asked them to move but they stated they didn’t want to get wet. Sorry, not my problem - MOVE! Not Disney’s fault but in general society still doesn’t care about social distancing which is a huge problem.
❌ People not following the ground markings. Standing over caution tape which is there to prevent people from being too close.
❌ Adults and kids alike touching every surface possible.

Did I personally feel “safe”? Yes, but I kept my hands to myself and limited touching of souvenirs and other objects. I kept my mask on and followed the rules. But that’s the problem with opening a space where thousands of people are - not everyone will follow the rules and not everyone takes COVID/mask wearing seriously. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Am I returning? All this to say no. I won’t be and I don’t think the parks should be open.

He finally got out of the house. After 10+ weeks inside, the barber shop 💈 opened last week and this kid got a hair cut. (AD)
He did so well in the mask but I sat there wondering if this was going to be his new normal. How long will this last, what IS normal at this point, what will the future of school look like? Today was the last day of kindergarten and he got the chance to see his sweet teacher who came by and dropped off some goodies.

What’s most important to me is that regardless of what “normal” looks like, my kids and their education doesn’t feel any impact.
