The time has come to say goodbye to my U by Kotex Tween ambassadorship. It has been a fun 6 months so I’d just like to take this time to reflect on the things I believe have made me a better mom and communicator.
U by Kotex challenged me without asking me to do anything but talk to my daughter. You see, I know the talk about periods shouldn’t and don’t have to be awkward but until U by Kotex asked me to I wasn’t planning on talking to my daughter about her period for a long time. Maybe not even until she actually started her period! Yep, I’m crazy.
My favorite part of being a U by Kotex Tween Ambassador was learning how to be a better mom for my daughter. Learning that I can truly talk to her about anything and she will listen. Sure, she’s not 16 yet but let’s hope since I am open and honest with her she’ll always come to me even when she’s 16.
I believe now, because of this campaign, we are ready for when Makenna starts her period. I think she probably knows more than other girls her age so maybe she can even educate her friends if they start their period at school and don’t know what to do.
Recently, I took Makenna out and let her pick the restaurant she wanted. We went shopping, saw Wreck It Ralph and ended up at Chili’s. I was happy because that’s my favorite restaurant. She knows that though so I think that’s why she chose it – to make me happy. We enjoyed our night out and our dinner. To end the night I gave Makenna her own little calendar and she was so happy that she could save it and keep track of her period when it comes.
Makenna is a strong little girl who can handle anything, I know that. And her period? She’ll be able to tackle. Why? Because she’s a superhero.
