Little boys and girls love to play in the dirt but I’m one of those moms who cannot stand a dirty kid. There is however one type of “dirt” I always allow my kids to enjoy. Chocolate pudding, chocolate cookies and of course the worm coming out of it makes every child (and adult) smile instantly – Worms In Dirt.
There are a few different types of way you can make this but I love the homemade version. I’ve always made the “instant” version using instant pudding mix but it’s just not as good in my eyes. I’ve also started using chocolate milk (TruMoo) instead of regular milk to sneak even more chocolaty yumminess in there! If I’m going to spoil myself then I want the good stuff.
These fun extra chocolate desserts are sure to please everyone and for every event. My husband and his friends loved them for their football games, the girls loved them as an after dinner dessert, they would be great for a dirt birthday party, and they’d be great for Earth Day too!
So why TruMoo Chocolate Milk? Well besides I love all things chocolate so regular milk just would not do in this recipe, TruMoo Chocolate Milk is made with fresh, pure milk from your trusted dairy, it has essential nutrients your kids need, like calcium, protein and vitamins A & D. TruMoo contains no artificial growth hormones* and has been formulated to contain less added sugar and calories than other chocolate milk formulas. It is sweetened with just enough sugar to supplement the naturally occurring sugar in milk and it contains no high fructose corn syrup. TruMoo tastes great in recipes too so you can suppliment it in almost any milk recipe your heart desires. Maybe a
- 3/4 C unsweetened cocoa powder
- 6 Tbls granulated white sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 4 1/2 Tbls corn starch
- 3/4 C heavy cream
- 3 C TruMoo Chocolate Milk
- 1 11-12oz bag milk chocolate chips
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 C crushed chocolate cookies
- gummy worms
- In a small bowl, mix cocoa, sugar and salt. Set aside.
- In a separate medium bowl combine cornstarch and heavy cream.
- In a double boiler over simmering water, heat TruMoo Chocolate Milk until steaming.
- Remove from heat, pour half of the TruMoo Chocolate Milk into the heavy cream mixture, while whisking.
- Add cocoa mixture to the liquid and stir. Return combined mixture tou double boiler. Cook, stirring for approximately 5 minutes or until pudding has thickened.
- Remove from heat. Add chocolate chips and vanilla, stirring until smooth.
- Divide among bowls to serve immediately by laying pudding and crushed cookies as desired. Top off with a gummy worm for decoration.
- To save for a later time, cover with plastic wrap pressed to the surface, to avoid a pudding skin from forming, chill until you are ready to serve. Once ready to serve continue at Step 7.

I fell in love with the name and would love to try this
We love Tru Moo Milk and I can’t wait to make this recipe for my grandkids.
I have been looking for something like this since tony romas made these type of treats for the kids! super cool! love that we can use trumoo!
That is definitely one for the kids. I have noticed that as I have gotten older my tolerance for gummy candy has gone away completely. I wonder how I ever liked them as a kid.
SO fun for a birthday party or play date! I think I’ve seen them made in little pails before with shovels too!
These are so adorable. I made a version of “dirt cups” a lot for my younger brother and sister growing up. My brother just made it to take to a Christmas party. Delicious!
Delicious AND gross… I know my boys (the kids and husband) would love this! I like that it uses chocolate milk with no high fructose corn syrup!
I can see the whole family guzzling this up.
This is such a fun idea for the kids!
I’m all for some extra chocolate. Great idea to use the TruMoo in this!
My sons would get a total kick out of making this. I just pinned it but sadly pinned to crafts instead of food, going to go see if I can fix that!
You’re right. This is a cool treat for Earth Day.
My kids would love those. And I love that you used TruMoo to make them.
This looks like a lot of fun to make and I bet they taste really good, too!
Yummy! I am totally doing this!
These are so fun, and I’m sure quite yummy too!
I love this idea, and I think if you added a bit of bailey Irish cream to it, it would make a great shot lol!
Great idea for an adult only version!
What a cute idea! 🙂
Those looks amazingly good! Did you use regular sized glasses or little shot glasses? Either way, they’d make a great snack!
I actually used shot glasses but I wouldn’t recommend it. We couldn’t fit a spoon into it so we had to use a knife to scoop it out and then put it into a bowl. Lol. So definitely measure the cups first!!
Such a fun treat!
The funny thing is at our grocery store, TrueMoo is more expensive than organic chocolate milk, so I tend to go with organic – though we have definitely had TrueMoo before.
More expensive?! That’s strange. I think we paid about 3.00 for a gallon which is less than the organic regular white milk.
My kids would have so much fun with this!
I have never thought to use chocolate milk while making dirt cups. What a great idea! I have to try these.
I love these, they are cute and my kids love gummie anything
My oldest would love this. Looks like a great treat.
This is an awesome idea!! the kids would love this!!
These are so cute! I don’t mind eating this type of dirt 🙂
I will have to make these when we visit with family in a few days. There are lots of kiddies around though I am sure these will also be a hit with the adults!
I guess a little dirt is good for you, right? 🙂 Looks delicious to me. Worms and all.
How cute – I love these!
Yummy that looks like a lot of fun to do with the kids!
My kids would go crazy for these. They are so cute and festive! And I bet they taste great too!
That looks so good! The boys would love those..Thanks for sharing! Maybe we will try with sour gummy worms for a “kick” 🙂
I never thought dirt could look so good. My kids would love these. Heck, I would love these!
